Spontaneous Bird and Red Branch Painting

This painting combines techniques I've learned with watercolor and Asian brush painting. I wanted to don something really spontaneous and this happened. Well, I thought it came out pretty good so I'm using it a project for one of my college courses.
Before I started to paint this I practiced painting the birds free form. You can watch the videos below to get a general Idea of how to paint birds in brush painting. They look so simple but they can be quite difficult to paint.

Brush Painting - Bird on Cherry Blossom Branch

An Asian brush painting I did awhile back. I recently entered it into my colleges art contest and won 1st place. I can't believe that I won. I always like this piece. It makes me even happier to know that other people like it too.

I used a similar video to paint the blossoms.

Brush Painting- Tiger

An Asian brush painting I did of a tiger. It took me three tries to get this one right. The color kept bleeding out to places I didn't want to go. On one try the color came out completely wrong. And on another the ink bleed, making it look like Mr. tiger's stripes were melting. Third time's the charm, right?

Watercolor - Parrot

My recent homework for my watercolor class. We had to paint an animal using only the charging color technique. The color is much more vibrant in the actual painting. I'm still figuring out all the tricks to scanning paintings and making them look accurate to the original.

Tiger Mother and Cub - a Work in Progress

Tiger Mother and Cub - a Work in Progress

A current original Asian brush painting I'm working on. I just have the line work done. I need to add some color and some details and I'll be done.
The style I'm working on is a mix of spontaneous and fine line

Click the links above to see an example of each style.
